Annual Meeting April 2008. Paesano's banquet room was full of cheer on April 15th as our League celebrated another good year. After cocktails and conversation, President Janie Shipley shared the highlights of the year--reminding us of our 40th Anniversary Celebration, our Focus the Nation outreach, our book discussions, our outstanding programs, voter registration efforts, fundraisers and so much more. She then turned to Reggie Turetsky who presented Diane Haselton with the President's Award for distinguished service. Bea Bailey, President-Elect, then thanked President Shipley for her strong and dedicated leadership. The gathered then had a little musical moment as we actually sang our new League song to the tune of "Auld Lang Syne." The dinner hour was filled with engaging exchanges about political events and League efforts. Our food, festive centerpieces and service were just wonderful. As we enjoyed our coffee and dessert, Thelma Spencer, our keynote speaker, shared her insider story of Alice Paul and the National Women's Party. The evening closed with the promise of fine year ahead.   LINK TO PHOTOS

LWV Clemson Area / 40th Anniversary Celebration (January 2008)

LWVCA had a glorious 40th anniversary party at the Calhoun Bridge Center in Clemson on Saturday, January 26th. About 35 people enjoyed wine, refreshments, memorabilia, balloons, reminiscences by charter members and past presidents and some very kind words from Senator Thomas Alexander and Clemson Mayor Larry Abernathy. Senator Alexander recognized the League's 40th anniversary with a Senate proclamation.

Mayor Abernathy, who has always been a strong supporter of the League, commended the League for its stands on critical issues. LWV-CA was honored to have the State President, Barbara Zia, join us for this special occasion. She summarized the important roles played by the members at both the local and state level.
