The September general meeting on September 14th will focus on education at all three levels--federal, state, and local. Linda Gahan will give us a briefing on the newly adopted national study on the Federal Role in Public Education. No Child Left Behind, followed by Obama's initiative on merit pay for teachers and the stimulus funds used to keep teachers in the classroom, has focused attention on this issue of great importance both to federal-state relations and to education. The study will focus on the role of the federal government in education policymaking, with possible consideration of funding, common standards and/or governance relationships among all levels of the government.
