Meet with David Ball to discuss study of health care by State League. David writes:

At our first Healthcare Conversation, held in Charleston, we heard several valuable perspectives. While I can confidently say that I know how healthcare should be financed (Single Payer), how care is delivered is a different matter entirely. We heard from an educator, a pediatric nurse practitioner, an ED doctor, a clinic-based nurse, as well as consumers of healthcare. Each offered valuable insight. We look forward to hearing from members of your League and your community.

We have reserved the large meeting room on the right as you come in the front entrance of the library.

The September general meeting on September 14th will focus on education at all three levels--federal, state, and local. Linda Gahan will give us a briefing on the newly adopted national study on the Federal Role in Public Education. No Child Left Behind, followed by Obama's initiative on merit pay for teachers and the stimulus funds used to keep teachers in the classroom, has focused attention on this issue of great importance both to federal-state relations and to education. The study will focus on the role of the federal government in education policymaking, with possible consideration of funding, common standards and/or governance relationships among all levels of the government.

Fundraiser. The League of Women Voters of the Clemson Area will be taking your previous treasures to the Pickens County Flea Market on Wednesday, October 1st.

Please start collecting your "stuff." This was an imprtant fundraiser last year and it can be much more productive if more of our members bring their "no longer used" items to Elinor Baron's garage. The drop off dates will be announced later. WE DO NOT DO CLOTHES.

Please help us implement this almost painless method of raising funds. Also, we will need some volunteers to help load the day before and help at the Flea Market. We really did have a great time. Call Elinor if you can help (654.46O2 - home or 506.1620 - cell).

Start Gathering.
